Team EB Trek 2001 is:
Andrew Berthrong, Dan Hoopes, Jake Merback, Rocky Garff, and Joey Merback






Andrew Berthrong,     Maraga, CA

A senior at BYU studying English and History, Andrew lived in El Salvador as a missionary from 1996 to 1998. He returned to El Salvador last summer on a humanitarian aid project. An avid jazz listener, he also plays the bass, piano, and has recently taken up the guitar.






Dan Hoopes         Moraga, CA

Graduated with a B.S. in Microbiology and a minor in Business from BYU, Dan works in the Cancer Research Lab on campus. He was a missionary in Uruguay and gave humanitarian service in El Salvador last summer. Dan also restores classic German cars and creates web pages, like this one.

Update for 2003: Dan finished his B.S. and is now working to complete a Master's in Electronics and Information Technology while he applies to attend Medical School. His research is now on Mechatronics (autonomous robots)

Jake Merback         Las Vegas, NV

A recent graduate of BYU, Jake will be attending Law School this fall at UNLV. He worked with Brazilian immigrants as a missionary in Miami, Florida. Jake has spent his summers teaching swimming to inner city kids in Southern California.









Rocky Garff         Lafayette, CA

Rocky graduated from BYU this April with a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Business. Between 1996 and 1998, he was a missionary in Portugal. In November 2000 he returned from Israel after studying Near Eastern History in Jerusalem.










Joey Merback          Las Vegas, NV

Joey is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Biology. He played on the Academy’s volleyball team for four years. He was a missionary in Madrid, Spain. Joey begins medical school at the University of Utah in August.
